To qualify for Notary Public licensing in New York State you need the following conditions to get your Notary Public Stamp & Seal:

1) You must be 18 or older. It does not matter how old you are.  We had someone in her 80's pass the exam!

2) You don't have to be a U.S. Citizen but you do need to at least be a, "Permanent resident Alien".

3)  You can have a felony conviction however it will require a routine, "certificate of release" from the state.

4)  You must live in NY State or have a job in New York State.  You are not required to have a job. If you commute to a new York State job you can use that address as a, "Qualified Resident" as long as it is a street address and not a P.O. Box.  You will also need to provide the business tax ID.  Someone who only works in NY State is considered a legal, "Non-Resident-Resident" and meets the residency requirement.

You only must score 70% or above on the NY Notary exam.  That means you only need to answer 28 questions out of 40 correctly.
